IP Network
iland is connected to the Internet backbone on high speed redundant
connections. iland's entire network is standardized on Enterprise
Cisco routers and switches using the BGP Protocol. Through our strategic
relationship with Level 3 Communications, iland has access to Level
3's network in 69 markets in service; 57 in the U.S. and 12 in Europe.
The Level 3 Network
Completed 2001, the Level 3 Network today operates as one
of the world’s newest and most advanced telecommunications
platforms.
The network spans 23,000 route miles and delivers services to customers
in major markets across the United States and Europe. It serves
a substantial number of the world’s largest and most sophisticated
communications companies, including inter-exchange carriers, local
phone companies, European PTTs, cable operators, ISPs, wireless
companies, content providers, and media and entertainment companies.
The Level 3 Network was the first international network in the
world built to be continuously upgradeable and fully optimized for
Internet Protocol. Because the network was constructed with multiple
conduits, Level 3 can deploy new generations of optical fiber and
equipment far more quickly and economically than its competitors
– a critical capability in an era of rapid technological change.
Unsurpassed Network Performance, Reliability, and Scalability
High capacity, scalable peering interconnections, and ongoing upgradeability
help to ensure that the Level 3 Network maintains uncongested connectivity
to the world's largest Internet networks. We back this up with Service
Level statements committing to 99.98% network availability, an average
latency of 40 milliseconds or less in all regions (25ms in North
America, 15ms in Europe), and less than .05% packet loss.
Level 3’s fiber optic network connects Europe and the United
States. It is the first international 10 Gbps (OC-192) IP backbone
to be seamless and fully route-diverse across both continents.
Low Cost of Service
Level 3’s Internet backbone runs on MPLS, the most efficient
protocol for operating IP networks. We offer three flexible billing
options (CDR, fixed-rate, or aggregate CDR). Your company can choose
from these based on your traffic patterns.
Global Reach
With over 950 global traffic aggregation access points, the Level
3 Network is widely accessible via all Level 3 Gateways, Level 3
EPOPs (Ethernet Points of Presence), Level 3 metro transport, ATM
access, Frame Relay access, and third-party access partners.
